PERSONAL DATA:  Born January 3, 1959, in Batumi, Georgia.  Married to Larisa Anatolievna Yurshikina, born in Shyolkovo, Moscow region.  They have two daughters, Darya, born in 1993, and Elena, born in 2001..  His parents, Yurchikhin Nikolai Fyodorovich and Mikrula Sofoklevna, reside in Batumi.  Hobbies include collecting stamps and space logos, sports, history of cosmonautics, and promotion of space.  He also enjoys reading history, science fiction and the classics. 

EDUCATION:  After graduation from high school in Batumi in 1976, he entered the Moscow Aviation Institute named after Sergey Ordzhonikidze.  He graduated in 1983, with a bachelor degree in mechanical engineering, specializing in airspace vehicles.  In 2001 he received a masters degree and defended theses at the Moscow State University of service.  In 2001, he graduated from the Moscow Service State University with a Ph.D. in economics.

EXPERIENCE:  After graduating from the S. Ordzhonikidze Moscow Aviation Institute he worked at the Russian Space Corporation Energia from September, 1983 until August, 1997.  He held the following positions: engineer, senior engineer, lead engineer supporting the Shuttle-Mir and NASA-Mir programs.

SPACEFLIGHT TRAINING:  In August, 1997 he was selected  as an RSC Energia cosmonaut-candidate. 

From January, 1998 to November, 1999 he completed basic spaceflight training.  In November, 1999 he was qualified as a test cosmonaut.

Since January, 2000 he trained in the test-cosmonaut group for the ISS program.

Started training for a Shuttle mission (STS-112) in September, 2001 at the Johnson Space Center, NASA.

From January, 2004 to October, 2005 trained as an ISS-13 backup crewmember (Soyuz TMA and ISS flight engineer).

From October, 2005 to April, 2006 trained as an ISS-13 crewmember (ISS commander and Soyuz TMA flight engineer).

From April, 2006 to April, 2007 trained as an ISS-15 prime crewmember (ISS commander and Soyuz TMA flight engineer). 

From October, 2009 trained as ISS-24/25 ISS flight engineer and Soyuz TMA commander. 

SPACEFLIGHT EXPERIENCE: Yurchikhin performed his 1st spaceflight on the shuttle STS-112, October 7–18, 2002 as mission specialist.  The mission lasted 10 days 19 hours 58 minutes. 

He completed his 2nd spaceflight from April to October 2007 (196 days) as ISS-15 commander and Soyuz TMA flight engineer.  He performed three EVAs that lasted 18 hours 44 minutes total.  

Launched into space for the 3rd time on June 16, 2010 on the Soyuz TMA-19 vehicle.  Currently serves as ISS-24 flight engineer.  Performed an EVA that lasted 6 hours and 43 minutes with M. Kornienko on July 27, 2010.
