About Buzz Aldrin


A graduate of West Point and MIT, Buzz Aldrin, Ph.D. (Colonel, USAF, Ret.) brought unmatched technical expertise to NASA’s astronaut corps. Selected in 1963, he quickly became a key figure in America’s push to the Moon.
Historic Achievements


•     Apollo 11 (1969): Lunar Module Pilot on the first crewed lunar landing. Completed a 2 hour 15 minute EVA on the Moon’s surface.


•     Gemini 12 (1966): Performed 5.5 hours of pioneering EVA, proving astronauts could work effectively in space.


•     Logged 289 hours and 53 minutes in space, including 7 hours and 52 minutes of EVA.


•     Recipient of major honours including the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Collier Trophy, and the Goddard Memorial Trophy.


Before & After NASA


A decorated USAF fighter pilot, Aldrin flew 66 combat missions in Korea and shot down two MiG‑15s. After NASA and Air Force service, he became a leading advocate for human space exploration, authoring influential books such as Return to Earth and Men from Earth.
