How Apollo Worked
Each mission relied on two spacecraft:
• The Command Module (CM) – orbiting the Moon
• The Lunar Module (LM) – landing on the surface
Two astronauts descended to the Moon to explore, photograph, and collect samples, while the third remained in lunar orbit. After surface operations, the LM lifted off to rejoin the CM for the journey home.
